Kite’s Early Roots
Kite Clothing was launched in 2007 by founder Jo Spragg, a mum of three from Dorset, who previously worked in the fashion industry as a buyer. Jo discovered that her busy job was difficult to balance with family life, and with an interest in designing eco-conscious garments, decided to launch a small business selling clothes of her own design. That small venture would eventually turn into the successful business that Kite has become! Fast forward to 2024, Jo is still actively involved in the business, ensuring that every collection is perfect by selecting colour palettes, brainstorming themes for each season, and visiting Kite factories.
Sustainability in Style
Sustainability and standards are an extremely important element of production for Kite, with their founder visiting production sites in India and Turkey every six months to assess the welfare of workers to ensure working standards and pay are fair. Not only are there regular visits to these sites, Kite is also part of the Soil Association and Global Organic Textile Standards Organisation, ensuring that every step of production adheres to a very high standard. This means that everything from the soil used to grow cotton, to the working conditions of factory employees is monitored and meets excellent conditions. In keeping with their sustainability standards, all of Kite’s garments are made of quality materials, including organic cotton, recycled plastic bottles, and wood pulp. Using these high-quality materials provides Kite with the ability to promise that their clothes are made to last.
Kite pride themselves on being a part of the ‘slow fashion’ movement by releasing clothes that don’t particularly follow current trends, but are instead timeless and versatile. This relates back to the eco-conscious ethos Kite proudly claims, as by releasing enduring staple pieces, customers are encouraged to invest in long-lasting organic clothing instead of following fast fashion.
